Nicola Preece joined Iscoed Chambers as a pupil after an outstanding academic career in which she was awarded a First Class Honours degree from the University of Wales Swansea and a ‘Very Competent’ in the Bar Vocational Course from the University of Wales Cardiff.
In addition she has also been bestowed with several accolades including ‘The Lord Reid Senior Scholarship’ and ‘The Hebe Plunkett Scholarship’ both from Gray’s Inn and ‘The Sir Samuel Evans Prize’, ‘The Lord Williams of Mostyn Scholarship’ and ‘The Swansea Charitable Trust Award’ from the University of Wales. At present she is currently studying for a Ph.D in Family Law. Her thesis is specifically based upon the law governing human rights and adoption in reference to the rights of the birth parents.
Nicola’s pupillage at Iscoed covered a broad spectrum of areas including crime, civil and family law. Her two pupil masters, John Hipkin and David Harris, have laid strong foundations for her and she continues to work hard to maintain the high standards set by them.
Since becoming a tenant in October 2007, Nicola’s practice has encompassed all aspects of general common law. She regularly prosecutes and defends at Crown Court and Magistrates Court for the Crown Prosecution Service, the National Probation Service and local Solicitors. Whilst her civil work has included Personal Injury, Housing, Contract Disputes, Small Claims and Fast Track Trials. She maintains a specific interest in Family Law and wishes to further her practical experience in this area whilst drawing on her academic background.
Nicola was a keen dancer and actress in her early years and continues to take an active interest in the theatre and dance scene.
